If
you have had local anesthesia, avoid
chewing
until your numbness from the anesthetic goes away. The fillings
are completely hardened during your appointment, so you can chew
on them as soon as your mouth wakes up. Avoid dark liquids for the
rest of the day, such as coffee tea, cola, red wine, cranberry juice
or dark sauces. If you must drink coffee or tea, dilute with cream.
Most people have post-operative sensitivity for about 3 months.
An anti-inflammatory pain medication (Advil, Aleve) can help alleviate
your discomfort.
If
your tooth is sensitive every time you eat,
Take:
Ibuprofen 800 mg.-3x daily
Or
Aleve
(naproxen sodium 220 mg.)
Please
call if your bite feels high, you cannot chew, or post-operative
sensitivity increases as the days go on, or if pain awakens you
at night. Also, call if you have other questions or concerns.
