Alloys - Adults

Dr. Anzelc just placed an alloy (amalgam) in your mouth.

Avoid chewing on the same side as the new restorations for at least 6 hours and until your numbness from the anesthetic goes away. Eat a soft diet, such as ice cream, yogurt or soup. Most people have some sensitivity for 6-12 weeks. An anti-inflammatory pain medication (Advil, Aleve) can help alleviate your discomfort. If your tooth is sensitive every time you eat, take

Ibuprofen 800 mg.-3x daily

Or
Aleve (naproxen sodium 220 mg.) twice daily

Please call if your bite feels high, you cannot chew on the tooth, or postoperative sensitivity increases as the days go on or if pain awakens you at night. Also, call if you have other questions or concerns.
